Nothing about protecting women and girls. We could protect women and girls from the real predators: men and boys in our churches, coaches, bosses and on and on. This has nothing to do with protection.
Hi Hannah. Thank you for your work at Tent of Nations. Hope you come back with lots of stories for those of us who cannot be in the Hebron Hills at this point. On the issue of the Iowa Legislature and their misguided policies, this is what I commented on Matt Russell's FB page a couple of days ago: "My 4-H dairy goat Ginger, a Saanen, wouldn't breed, so I was very disappointed since I wanted to raise her kid/s. The vet called her a "hermaphrodite", which was a big word for a 10-year old. Apparently our Iowa legislators, who can certainly look up that big word, choose to ignore the diversity that comes with all animal life. Any farm kids under the golden dome in Des Moines?"
Hannah, I've read about this Iowa bill as well. I have to politely disagree with you...this legislation protects women and girls in sports, locker rooms, and private female spaces. As a woman and grandmother to 10 precious granddaughters, I am grateful to our legislature and governor for removing potential threats to women in sports and restrooms. It's not about discriminating against transgender people...they still have their civil rights but we must also protect biological women's/girls' rights to privacy and fair sports competition.
Hi Lynn, thanks for your comment - I think that disagreeing with each other respectfully is something we all need to practice! And I'll say in response to your comment about women in sports and restrooms that I don't share your concerns. When I was a kid, I was really frustrated that I couldn't play sports with boys... and I've always been annoyed at gendered bathrooms, the line at the women's room is so much longer than the men's room! But, that's a little beside the point: even if I wanted to ensure transgender people didn't use a restroom that I didn't want them to, or play sports that I didn't want them to, I think a bill that allows them to be discriminated against when they are trying to get a job or access housing or education is going too far, and is harmful. You said "they still have their civil rights" but that is actually what this bill that was just passed has taken from transgender people, and from anyone who is suspected of being transgender. It makes me sad and scared, for the precious grandchildren of this world whose gender doesn't align with what society expects of them.

Thank you, Hannah. I admire the courage you witness and the compassion you show.
